The ONU Student
Chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers provides an outstanding
opportunity for students in the Department of Technology. Each year
numerous activities enable our students to compete in technology-oriented
contests, experience industrial environments, meet professionals in
the field, and to share in a fellowship of students with similar interests
and aspirations outside of formal classrooms. The student officers also
gain leadership responsibilities and experiences, and have the opportunity
to gain formal leadership training within SME and through other ONU
events. The following activities and opportunities are available though
the work of our chapter.
Participation
and planning for the annual Tour of American
Industries.
Participation
in the annual Robotics International/SME Student
Robotic Technology and Engineering Challenge competition.
Extracurricular
activities with other technology students at ONU and
other schools.
Student officer
experience and training, including the annual SME
Chapter Officers Conference.
Opportunity
to attend plant tours and technical presentations at
senior chapter meetings.
Networking
with professionals in industry at senior chapter
meetings.
Encouragement
of a culture of continuing education and professional
growth.
Access to
SME reference materials on CD and on the SME Internet
site.
Our
technology students have honored our chapter with numerous awards and
high participation at SME competitions and functions. We welcome anyone
with an interest to contact our student officers or any of the technology
department faculty to learn more about our chapter,
