Originally founded at ONU as Phi Chi Psi in 1909, the local fraternity became Zeta chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity on June 1, 1912. Zeta chapter has been in continuous existence since its founding, except during WWII. As one of the oldest single letter chapters still active, Zeta has initiated over 1300 brothers and is one of the largest chapters of Sigma Pi Fraternity. Nationally, the fraternity was established at Vincennes University on February 26, 1897 as a literary society named Tau Phi Delta. Ten years later, it would change its name to Sigma Pi Fraternity and begin establishing new chapters at other college campuses. Sigma Pi became Sigma Pi Fraternity, International after the acceptance of its first Canadian chapter in 1984. The fraternity has continued to grow throughout the years. Sigma Pi is now 118 chapters strong and has an alumni base of over 85,000. For more information about Sigma Pi Fraternity, Int’l, click on the Sigma Pi Nationals website on our Links page. |
