As the environmentally-oriented group on campus, ONE strives to increase awareness and advocate ecologically sound practices at ONU and in the community. We hope that the support of students and faculty will help us petition to make ONU "greener." These petitions will promote the use of recycled paper in computer labs and academic departments, the installation of solar panels and/or a wind farm on ONU property, and lowering heating and cooling costs around campus. By bringing the students and administration together, we hope to reduce the university's negative impact on the environment.
Use an old sock over the exhaust pipe to how much dirt you car emits. We were thinking about having this event in the parking lot on some week night. We need to publicize for the event so that we have a better turn out than last year. We were thinking about having the event in a couple of weeks.
Adopt an Animal from the Cinncinnatti zoo. What animal would you like to adopt? ONE will give a donation to whatever animal we choose. CJ has taken charge of this task. Update: To adopt an animal from the Cinncinnatti zoo (possibly a polar bear) will cost ONE $30.
We would like to start our petition for having the school use recycled paper. We are going to have a table outside the Mac dining hall and try to get as many students as possible (and faculty) to sign our petition. We are doing this 9th and 10th week and need one or more people at the table between the hours of 11-1 and 4-7. Obviously, you don't have to stay for the whole time slot, but if you have any time available to help with this, let us know. Also, we would like to find out how much paper is used in each department for a week, month, year, etc. If you could, find someone in your department who would know this so we will have actual facts to tell those who may want to sign our petition. This petition is for faculty too, so feel free to ask them to sign it as well.
We were thinking about camping this winter. Possible places discussed were Hocking Hills, which is a beautiful place, but three hours away, John Bryant (where we were last weekend), or Glen Helen.
