New Players & High School Players
ONU STUDENTS: come out to practice or talk to a current player, captain or coach.
HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS: Let us know when you'll be on campus, and we'll arrange for you to meet some of the team and come to one of our practices.
Ultimate is a high octane sport invented by a bunch of hippies in the late 1960's who were tired of all the standing around in the sports their parents played. Ultimate takes the best of the other sports and combines them into a running, jumping, skying, diving amazing sport. If you are an athlete that enjoys sports, wants to travel on ONU funds, and represent ONU at tournaments against other colleges, then Ultimate is the sport for you. Current ONU Ultimate players competed in a number of varsity sports in high school including: basketball, soccer, football, track, cross country, lacrosse, baseball, and wrestling.
The ONU ultimate team is a nationally ranked dominating force. We routinely finish in the top ten in the region ahead of many Division One teams like Purdue, and Illinois State. Out of over 60 teams in the region, we are the only D-III team to qualify for regionals the last five years in a row. We also finish in the top ten at the D-III National Tournament which draws the top D-III teams from all over the country.
Fall is a great time to come out to practice. We generally have 40 to 50 guys out playing ultimate by the president's house (he loves us). The women's team is out there also. It is a great time to learn how to throw and meet other players. New players are welcome. Many of our newer players are playing organized ultimate for the first time. We also have intramurals on Wednesdays which brings out several hundered students, beverages, and even some dogs.
The team travels to a number of tournaments in the fall and spring. Tournaments are a blast. We get to play ultimate all day, eat the most delicious food ever, then hang with the team
at night. The best part is that just like varsity sports, ONU picks up the tab.
Since our veterans and coach are so good, we only have to practice several times a week. We will teach you all the skills and then spend a lot of time scrimaging to further develop what you've learned. We have many dedicated athletic players in engineering, the sciences, and other demanding academic programs that are able to fit in ultimate, so can you.
If you are an athlete and you're still reading this, you've got to be way cool. So come out and start playing the sweetest sport ever with a bunch of other way cool guys!
