| MARION TEAPOT TOURNAMENT |
| The scene was set for an unforgettable day of rugby. Like always the stage was a stretch of grass found almost randomly growing in a tucked away corner of the town. Three fields were marked with lime and paint and crowned by posts laced with ducked tape. This was Marion, windy and wet, ready for the infamous teapot tournament. |
| The final hurdle |
|
For the men's team the tournament posed a number of severe challenges. They would try to finish their season with an undefeated record, winning their third spring tournament in the process. Another great challenge was showing up on time, at least for some.
In their first match the men in Black showed great character to come from behind and beat Wright State in a second half of great running rugby. They faltered at the second hurdle though, when the men from Findlay's rugby team proved too strong in the semi final. The margin was one try, one of only four conceded all twelve matches the past spring season. It was the one that hurt the most. |
| Combining |
| The Black Rose ladies combined with Ashland to make up the numbers that both teams lacked. In playing for both teams the girls really showed strength and determination. However, a great all round effort could not mask the lack of cohesion between the players that were on opposite sides of the ball just a week before. |
| Accolades |
| On the men's side of the tournament it was Findlay that beat Ashland's men in a well fought final match. A more important accolade, at least from a Black Rose perspective, was the first try that hooker Brian Joseph Majoy scored while wearing an orange jersey. |
