| A DAY WITH TWO FACES |
| The sun came out on a beautiful fall day in the small town of Oberlin. On a pitch hidden behind campus bleachers and trees the Ohio Northern men scored a 109-0 blow-out win over the well spirited home team. Earlier on the day the Ohio Northern woman had not been so lucky. They lost with eight tries to one to the well disciplined and talented Oberlin women's rugby team. |

The sideline was filled with support for the home team as the girls kicked off. Swept up by the constant cheers, the Oberlin girls started with passion and hard running. ONU's first phase defensive tackling lacked that spark, especially after Kari Didier had to be send to the ER with what is suspected to be a fractured ankle. The well organized girls in green from Oberlin made every opportunity count as they sped around the scrambling ONU defense. Good counter-rucking by the guests from Ada plugged some of the holes, but the end result was inevitable.

After three early scores in the first 10 minutes, and an amazing conversion kick close to the sideline, the end result in the mens game was set too. The only remaining question was what the margin of victory would be.
In the first half the ONU backs had a field day, running past and through defenders and scoring great individual tries. Brian Mulvany and Cory Thatcher scored the majority of the nine tries in the first forty minutes. The second half saw wholesale changes with seven pairs of fresh legs lining up for the first kick. The intensity stayed high as the brave boys from Oberlin kept on fighting for all their worth. The ONU pack kept the ball tight and allowed for a more fluid phase by phase buildup to a total of 8 tries in the second half. One of these was scored by prop Tim Smith, the first for him after two years of packing it down on the front row. |
